Fluoride Varnish Treatment

Overview

Fluoride treatments should be part of your child's regular dental visit to help reduce tooth sensitivity, provide extra tooth enamel protection and make teeth more decay resistant. Fluoride varnish is a pale yellow gel that sets quickly when applied and has a pleasant taste, with a fruity flavor. Fluoride varnish should be applied at least twice yearly from the age of two onwards. The Procedure

A small piece of gauze is used to clean and dry your child’s teeth. Fluoride varnish is "painted" onto your child’s teeth with the help of a tiny brush. It solidifies and forms a slightly tinted film when it comes in contact with saliva. Fluoride is then absorbed into the enamel over time. However, your child may be allowed to brush four hours following application.
