Dental Implant

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically embedded into the jawbone to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. These implants are generally made of titanium or titanium alloy because they are highly biocompatible with the human body. They are absolutely safe and promise a long-term solution.

The Procedure
The surgical dentist administers anesthesia to desensitize the area where the implant has to be placed. The dentist then makes an incision on the gum tissues and exposes the jaw bone. A hole is drilled into the jawbone and the implants are inserted into it. Finally the dentist closes the gum flap with sutures. It is left for three to six months to heal and integrate with the jawbone. The jaw bone grows around the implant to create a strong structural support. When the gums around the implants are properly healed another hole is punctured right above the implant and an abutment is screwed into it. Once the false tooth is fabricated in the dental lab the dentist places the new tooth and snaps it securely into place.

The Symptoms
You may need Dental implants if you are missing one or more teeth due to injury, decay, gum disease, infection or any other reason.

The Eligibility
You are eligible for Dental implants if you
  • Have healthy teeth and gums tissues
  • Have adequate bone support to fuse the implants into the jaw
  • Possess overall good health
  • Are willing to commit to excellent oral hygiene regimen and routine dental visits post-surgery
  • Are free from any periodontal disease
  • Are not suffering from bruxism or teeth grinding
The Risks Involved
Persistent infection at the implant site, failure to integrate with the surrounding bone, damage to the surrounding tissues, sinus problems and tissue or nerve damage are the possible risks associated with implants.

The Impact
With careful maintenance Dental implants should last a lifetime. Practicing excellent oral hygiene and scheduling regular dental checkups can prolong the life of the implants.
