Dentures

Dentures are a set of removable replacement teeth for missing teeth. There are two types of dentures - complete and partial. Complete dentures otherwise known as full dentures are a full set of teeth that helps to replace all your upper jaw or lower jaw teeth. Partial dentures replace just one or a few missing teeth. They also help to maintain alignment and prevent others from shifting position. These false, removable teeth are either made of acrylic and resin, light weight metal or special plastics. The most recent development is the Flexite partial denture which provides a comfortable and flexible fit.

The Procedure
Your dentist will take impressions of your mouth using a dental putty which you will be asked to bite into. This mold serves as a blueprint for the Dentures that are custom-made to fit your mouth precisely. Once the denture is ready, it is inserted to check the fit and feel. Necessary adjustments are then made to make sure that the denture fits snugly over your gums and jaw bone.

The Symptoms
You may need Dentures if you are missing a large number of teeth or have lost an entire arch of teeth or looking to replace all of your teeth due to age, injury, a blow or an accident.

The Eligibility
You are eligible for Dentures if you
  • Have experienced significant tooth loss
  • Have enough healthy jawbone structure and gum tissue for the denture to grasp around
  • Have healthy gums that are free from periodontal diseases
  • Have good oral and general health
  • Have realistic expectations about what dentures can achieve
The Risks Involved
Loosening of the remaining natural teeth, bone resorption/shrinkage, poor aesthetics, poor stability, malnutrition, oral thrush, burning mouth syndrome, bad breath and formation of pressure sores, tumors or epulis are the risks associated with Dentures.

The Impact
When you first start to wear the Dentures you will feel strange, bulky and uncomfortable. It will take several days or weeks to get fully accustomed to them. After the adjustment period is over your Dentures will feel completely normal to you.

Getting used to Dentures may take some time, but the end result is really worth the wait. Dentures give you the look and feel of natural teeth. With Dentures you can eat, speak, smile and laugh with confidence again, like you have had them for a lifetime! Don't wait any longer to get the smile you deserve. Opt for Dentures!
