Time for cloud to transform the EMR: Sridharan Sivan
Advancements in mobile, wireless and other technologies have redefined patient monitoring and diagnosis. Sridharan Sivan, Founder and CEO, S10 Health, talks to ETHealthworld about the challenges in data gathering and EMR documentation.
1. The Indian healthcare industry is at the cusp of transformation. How does healthcare on cloud contribute to this transformation?
Healthcare data are entering a new era with the mass adoption of EHRs, the harnessing of big data, the rise of genomics, personalized medicine, and more. To manage all that data, hospitals and other healthcare entities will increasingly be looking at new solutions involving the cloud. We are increasingly ready to move past the regulatory and security concerns that have previously held healthcare back.
2. How was S10 Health coined and found? Who are your key founders and investors? What are your expansion plans in India and abroad?
We at S10 Health saw that medical needs of the heath seeker have gone beyond just treatment and procedures. The process of providing convenient access, delivering and continuing quality care is as important as the treatment itself.
S10 Health is an endeavor to compliment the doctor in providing patient's experience consistently. The S stands for this scientific synchronization of the delivery process and 10 stands for enabling them digitally. S10 Health is a vibrant healthcare delivery platform promoted by leading healthcare industry veterans and physicians, who strive to give the health seekers a complete end to end clinical health experience while at the same time, empower the physicians to build successful practices. S10 health bridges the gap between the health seekers needs and doctors practice objective by synchronization of the healthcare delivery process.
We have been self funded as of now. We have invested 2 millon USD. We are growing at more than 100% annually. We are entering a phase of non linear scalability phase from now on. We have partnered with physicians in the US, India and Middle East to provide health seekers access to Quality medical care in a fast, easy and painless manner. S10 Health already has operations in Delhi and we are planning to expand to all the metro cities following the Tier II and Tie III markets as well in the coming years.
3. How many clinics have S10 Health tied up with at present ?
We currently have 184 clinics and 1280 doctors in our platform. We would have close to 300 clinics and 2200 doctors in our platform by end of 2017.
4. How is mobility in healthcare evolving in India today and how does S10 Health contribute to this new age revolution?
Mobility has marked a significant change in how healthcare is delivered today. In today's demanding world, striking a balance to have a healthy lifestyle is a constant challenge. Mobility is gradually replacing the traditional system of family doctors visiting the family under any healthcare emergencies. The pressure to cut costs and to provide mobilizing care has also lead to the development of new mobile remedies across this industry.
Mobility in healthcare has numerous advantages such as access to electronic medical record (EMR), improved data capture, reduced errors, improved quality of interaction with patients, and easy access to records by patients. Advancements in mobile, wireless and other technologies will enable remote patient monitoring and diagnosis to help address in case of emergencies.
5. What is a Virtual Scribe? What is the scenario in India for this industry?
A virtual medical scribe is a professional who is capable of listening to the discussion between the doctor and patient and interpreting that discussion into meaningful patient Health data. This is made possible by equipping the exam rooms at the doctors' clinics with good quality microphones and providing the scribe access to the EMR.
The scribe can document the complete chart which begins with the History of the present illness, Past Medical & Surgical History, Family and Social History, Review of Systems, Physical Examination, Imaging & Lab, Diagnoses & Procedure Coding, Plan and E&M Coding.
Virtual scribing is a revolutionary development in the healthcare sector that enables one to securely manage patient data in your EMR in real-time. The Virtual Scribe service was created by doctors, for doctors, and designed to save healthcare providers time and increase their savings. It shares the provider's burden of data gathering and EMR documentation.
In doing so, the physician's individual productivity and patient throughput increase, so that goal of providing cost effective, quality medical care is achieved.
6. How does S10 Health contribute to this vertical of healthcare industry? Please share a case study?
Being in the healthcare space can be challenging yet refreshing, since there is so much potential and opportunities for one to grow. S10 health bridges the gap between the health seekers needs and doctors practice objective by synchronization of the healthcare delivery process. This leads to increased savings, enhanced customer experience and improved lives of both the health seekers and the doctors.
Also this synchronization fosters increasing the number of patient encounters and reducing the wait time of patients of high traffic practices or increasing the patient flow of a budding practice. It is a first of a kind model in the global health care industry that synchronizes the needs of the doctors and patients.
7. EHR and EMR is the need of the hour in the healthcare space. How does S10 Health help by giving detailed analytics of the same?
Electronic Medical Records is a pioneer growth in the healthcare space. It enables healthcare providers to have a coded integrated healthcare system, as they were lagging behind in converting the patient records from paper to electronic earlier.
S10 Health provides demographic and geographic information to the SafeCare network clinics to better tailor their services to their patients' needs. S10 health provides internal metrics for higher standards of quality on a real time basis.
The S10 Health provides a software suite to the SafeCare network clinics that empower patients. With EMRs, patients' health and medication history, laboratory results and more are easily accessible by physicians and health care providers. The future of EHR looks positive if healthcare providers continue to personalize how they use these technologies in their practice.
